I have some really nice students this year that are really working hard to be successful.  However, I have a few students...  well, let's just say they are less than motivated.  Some of them have even gone as far as saying, "That's it!  I give up!  I'm not even going to try anymore!"  May I mention that we haven't even been through nine weeks of school!

One of the reasons these students want to give up is because their first test grade was poor...  Now, let's think about this for a minute...  If you were not happy with your first test grade, is giving up going to make your score better?  Will throwing up your hands and saying, "Forget it!" increase your grade?  Will giving up show Ms. Stein that you care about your performance in her class?  The answer to all of the above is NO!!!!

Some things in life are hard.  There will be times (in school and out) when you have to work your tail off just to get an inch closer to your goal -- and it may take years to actually reach that goal.

You have to work hard in math class.  There are lots of problems to complete, and sometimes each problem has many steps.  That doesn't mean you should stop half way through or not do anything because the problems will take too long. You need to step up to the challenge!  Show those problems whose boss!  Kick and beat on those problems until they lay bloodied on the curb with all of their solutions found!

The bottom line is that I am concerned.  I feel bad that I have students who want to give up.  Please don't give up.  Come see me after school or before school or email me.  I want to help you.  They pay me to help you!  LET ME HELP YOU!!

Success is possible if you work hard.

I was like that once~ But really all you have to do is just keep trying. It's like that old saying, "Practice makes perfect." You're never going to get much of anywhere if you don't keep trying. So what if the first test grade is "poor." That's more than enough motivation to get your brain to say "HEY! LISTEN! If you practice then you can do much better than before!" Basically, just keep practicing and trying and studing. You'll get it eventually, don't give up. ;3

If you give up now then you are basically throwing away the 11 or 12 years you've hard for come June of your graduation day. If you fail then you should learn from your mistakes and be even more motivated to practice because practice makes perfect. If you don't know you should ask somebody.

Yea, I've been there and done that. I was never really a fan of math but I know I need it in life to a certain extent. I went to WHS for sophomore year and my math teacher wasn't all that great. There's alot of things I walked out that year not knowing becauses I chose to blame my lack of knowledge on the teacher instead of taking that extra step to better myself. I can honestly say I regret not doing all I could then to understand. I don't properly learn exponents until junior year because of my lack of caring and it still hurts me in math classes today. So don't let yourself get behind in math classes because they are cummulative (stuff from past years show up again) so if you didn't understand it the year before, you'll probably never understand it until you take that extra step and ask someone for help. People want to help you...

my first grade was poor, but i'm willing to work really hard to pass this class. everyone who is not willing to work hard now will come around sooner or later, they just need to find something in math that comes natural to them and they will find more of an intrest. no one should give up, your mistakes are what you learn from.

WE ALL AS SENIORS IN ALGEBRA 2 NEED NOT TO BE PLAYIN GAMES. WE NEED TO FOCUSE ON THE FUTURE AND STOP THINKING ABOUT WATS BENEFITING US NOW IN CLASS WHILE YOU AREN'T DOIN YOUR WORK YOUR FRIENDS ARE AND GETTING THE GRADES FOR IT. SO STAY ON TASK AND GET OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.

LISTEN, A TEACHER WILL NOT GIVE YOU A PROBLEM THAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU TO SOLVE. YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR HELP OR AT LEAST PAY ATTENTION DURING EXPLANATIONS OR NOTES. A TEACHER WILL NEVER EXPECT A 100% GRADE ON EVERYONE OF YOUR TEST AND QUIZZES BECAUSE WE ARE ALL HUMANS AND HUMANS MAKE MISTAKE. BASICALLY WHAT I AM SAYIN IS NEVER GIVE UP. I LIVE BY TWO QUOTES AND THEY ARE F.E.P.T.I.A.S(FOR EVERY PROBLEM THERE IS A SOLUTION) AND GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT. SO BE PATIENT AND EVENTUALLY ALL THOSE STUDENT WHO DONT UNDERSTAND THE MATH NOW, WILL EVENTUALLY GET IT. ;)

I really like this class. I find it easier than algebra 1 actually and Ms. Stein makes it fun to learn about the subject. So hopefully I can overcome my disorder of not doing my homework and pass the class and get a good sol score and stay loud.

To all my seniors ya all know how fast this went by. I know ya still remember 9th grade like it was yesterday,so my advice is not to take the last year for granted. Stay focused finish the job so we can get on with life. This is the end of the beginning 1

I passed advanced on my algebra 1 SOL and I had an A the whole time I took it. I walked into Algebra II with a positive attitude thinking I could do it all..well I couldn't. I didn't study and I just talked to my friends the whole time. I ended up with a very low D and a realization that I have no idea what i'm doing. I have learned to turn that all around and shift my attitude..and my seat so I don't talk to my friends as much. Seniors, just close your mouths and open your ears and you will learn !

I once had trouble with girls and socializing with them. Girls were so intimidating and I had a lot of security issues with my looks and whether or not I could impress them with my wit. I tried acting like other people, totally sacrificing my own personality. And then one day, it just clicked that I was my own person. I had been struggling to find the key to interactions with girls when I had the key the whole time. The key was to be myself because girls appreciated boys having their own twist on life. I first had to discover what my niche was and what I wanted people to percieve me as. I finally found my swag and I learned to interact with girls that appreciated the same styles as I did.

Sometimes I feel like giving up but then I think to myself " Arielle you're a senior now, you cant just give up" so i motivate myself and make things better. everyone should keep a positive mind and always believe that you can do it because you reallly can. especially if you have a good support system like good friends, family, and even the teachers. Take advantage of the opportunities that school gives you and it will come in handy.

I know how hard things can be, but giving up isn't the answer to solve any problem in life. You just have to be patient and at least try or attempt the problem, as Ms. Stein stated she is there to help and answer any questions you may have. There are things in life that come easier to others, but you have to have a positive outlook on the situation to be able to overcome it.

Really if you think about it, everything in life isnt that easy as expect. Things won't always come to you the easy way, you got to work hard until you accomplished it. People aren't going to babysit you until you finally know how to be independent. Like in school you have know that we are now seniors and we have to work hard and not give up because it is our last year and we need to go good in school and keep other things behind it !

I use to be the student that wanted to give up in math when I was in Algebra 1 in 8th Grade and then i had to go to geometry, then to algebra 2, then trig. I thought that I wasn't going to make it. Trig was the hardest and the worst for me. I use to tell my teacher ms. obriant, "I'm not doing this no more!", I wanted to give up and drop out of it. But then i started going to tuitoring and my grades improved and now I'm making a B in class. I use to think that it was impossible for me to even make a be in math. So don't give up when you fail a test, just be determined to work harder.

When i was in middle school I was such a failure to my parents and myself. Once I started high school I was ready to change my actions and to do better. I have not yet made my parentsor myself happy compeletly but i'm still striving for better. So giving up is not an option for me anymore because like you stated giving up isn't going to get you anywhere. and ms stien i love the way you teach and i'm very comfortable asking you questions and i will never give up.

Giving up is never the answer. In my opinion math in general is more difficult than most classes because math requires practice. So to just give up and not try that's saying you don't want to get anywhere in life period. I struggled through Algebra and Geometry and thought that I should just give up on Algebra 2. But my outcome from practicing my math work was me getting an "A" :-)

Micah Davis period 4 says: 1st " bloodied on the curb," LOL. As for my word of encouragement, I think we all know most students aren't big fans of math. I think of it as an intelligence indicator. Math is all about thinking logically, and if you can do that, you go hard. If you think about why colleges will fight over you if you're good at math, you'll feel a lot more motivated to succeed. Remember math skills mean two things: You know how to utalize your mind and you go hard. Study!!!

Every since I started middle school, I had been struggling with my grades. I knew, as well as everybody else, that I was not performing to the best of my ability. Ever since my freshman year, I have come to realization as to how important my education is. I don't have time to waste. Every decision I make will affect the outome of my life. I am now a senior! I am one step away from making my hopes and dreams come true. A word of advice: You hold the key to success.

I just want to tell you Ms. Stein that Prob&Stats is one of my favorite class this year. Which is pretty suprising to me because I am not a big fan or a fan at all at math. The way that you have designed the class has made it easy for me to understand things we are learning. I really like how we do alot of interactive activities because it makes me want to learn more compared to other classes. I know that is easy now but i know that will always be so i plan to persevere so that i will mantain a good grade in the class.
